Habitat: Inhabits primarily rocky, mountainous streams and Lakes.
Scaly Osman (Diptychus maculatus) has elongated body, its profiles equally arched. Mouth inferior, transverse and arched; lips fleshy and smooth.Barbels one pair of maxillary, nearly equal to eye-diameter. Dorsal fin inserted nearer to tip of snout than to caudal fin base. Caudal fin forked. Scales minute, scattered along upper two-thirds of body, thoracic region and sides of tail; lateral line with 80 to 97 scales. In color, back dark with a bluish tinge; lower half of body and belly yellowish; a narrow dull band often along lateral line.Dorsal and caudal fins dusky; pectoral, pelvic and anal fins yellowish. In Deosai, back and sides of body with bluish blotches, larger below lateral line; a yellowish band from pectoral fin to base of caudal fin; fins with rows of bluish spots.
